Boston, MA – October, 2025 – Ekam Imaging, is proud to announce that it will expand our CRO services at Northeastern University’s CTNI thanks to the new Mediso nanoScan 7T PET/MRI scanner—the first system of its kind in North America.
Developed by Mediso Medical Imaging Systems and installed in CTNI’s Mugar Life Sciences Building, the next-gen cryogen-free system uniquely combines high-field MRI and PET in a single preclinical platform, enabling simultaneous readouts of brain structure, function, and molecular targets. This integrated setup goes beyond traditional PET/CT or separate PET and MRI scanners, allowing fully co-registered multimodal data from the same animal in a single session.
By pairing this hardware with Ekam’s expertise in advanced MRI, awake-animal paradigms, and AI-enabled image analysis, sponsors will be able to design studies that:
- Map target engagement and molecular pathways with PET while quantifying structural and functional brain changes via MRI
- Run longitudinal, multimodal studies in models of concussion/TBI, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, glioblastoma, and other CNS disorders
- De-risk next-generation therapeutics, including non-hallucinogenic psychedelic-inspired compounds, by directly visualizing receptor-level mechanisms in vivo
“This technology opens up an entirely new tier of translational neuroscience for our partners,” said Dan Madularu, PhD, CEO of Ekam Imaging. “Being able to combine high-field MRI, PET, and sophisticated preclinical models under one roof at Northeastern means we can help clients ask—and answer—scientific questions that simply weren’t feasible before.”
